Image upload order, is it random?

ep / 2008-06-19 06:11:49

Hi, is there a rationale about the order of images when uploading several to an exhibit?
When I choose 6 images in this order:

1,2,3,4,5,6

and upload them in one operation, they end up in the order:

3,6,1,5,2,4

Is this just random? or is there a way to upload in the same order I selected the images?
I know that you can reorder after upload by dragging and dropping or upload one image at a time. I'd just like to understand. thankx // ep

Works on my machine...and any machine I've tested from. Might not be perfect...first time I've heard anybody mention this (and the thing has been out there over a year now).

Vaska A / 2008-06-19 19:04:15

ep, i'm curious...have you upgraded you jquery.js file by any chance?

ep / 2008-06-23 18:10:04

I haven't upgraded anything since 0.70e fresh install.
Am I supposed to?

Vaska A / 2008-06-23 19:12:57

No...don't need to upgrade.

It's weird...I've never had any problems with the order of the images. Nor has anybody even mentioned it before.

I'm not going to do anything about this...a new version is already being worked on (and it too is working perfectly)...but out of curiousity which browser...version...os?

ep / 2008-06-24 09:19:02

I'm running Mac OS X 10.5.2 and have been able to reproduce this with Safari 3.1.1 and Firefox 2.0.0.14 on 2 different machines, 2 installs on my web server and even on your online demo:

http://demo.indexhibit.org/project/upload-test/

I'm puzzled

Strange...used those...never seen the problem...

But, as I said, I'm not going to do anything about this with this version...it's a closed book.

ep / 2008-06-24 14:14:27

It's not really a trouble to get round.
Feel free to send me a link to test a new version if any.

i have the same problem with a site i'm doing.. all the images are relatively the same visually but they need to be ordered by delivery dates and once uploaded, are in random order. maybe it has something to do with uploading 6 images at once, then uploading some more after?

Vaska A / 2008-10-08 17:25:13

You can't sort them?

kempkeith / 2009-01-07 03:21:56

I am new user of InEx, and I am having the same problem.
OS X 10.5.5 and I'm using the latest version of Safari.
I can upload images to an exhibit just fine, but if there is some sort of button or function to sort them in Index Exhibit, I don't see it.
I suppose to really create a means to an end, I could just upload the images one at a time in the reverse order of how I want them to appear, i.e. if i would like to see image A, then B, then C I would have to upload C, then B, then A.

As far as uploading multiple images at one time, as jasperktone stated, I have the same problem. Index Exhibit seems to pick a random order to display the images. I also renamed the images to 1, 2, 3 and then uploaded them in that order and when displayed they were 2, 3, 1...

I really hope someone can help me resolve this as...
thanks.

Have you tried dragging them around after you've uploaded them? It's not indicated per-say, but you can drag and drop the images to reorder them around.

*btw, it's Indexhibit... not InEx or Index exhibit...

kempkeith / 2009-01-08 07:43:59

Aha-I can drag the images around..thank you, and thank you sooooo much for the correcting me on on the spelling and syntax of Indexhibit.

marwan / 2009-04-26 17:22:33

same problem...
but i guess in the new version this will be different with batch upload made possible !!

Vaska A / 2009-04-26 17:33:16

Yes and no...

I don't see what's so hard about dragging your images after they are uploaded to get the order correct. With the batch uploader it's always done alphabetically now...so it's on the user to deal with the ordering. No way around that...

marwan / 2009-04-26 17:37:40

but to make it easier it would be great to have the name of the file under the thumbnail instead of the edit link. by clicking the name you get in the edit zone. moving around images would be easier if for example they are all text..

Vaska A / 2009-04-26 17:41:38

The name of the file is more imporant than the image itself? Don't think so...it's visual right there to look at...

People know they images by what they look like first...name...sometimes...second...

marwan / 2009-04-26 18:14:06

i agree with you but you could have both ! the thumbnail and under it the name of the archive instead of the edit link..
i'm just uploading a book with a lot of pages with only text and it drives me crazy reordering !
Webpage

Vaska A / 2009-04-26 18:21:22

No, you can't actually...not any more...

marwan / 2009-04-26 18:23:29

i can't reorder anymore?

marwan / 2009-04-26 18:27:05

euh, by the way, indexhibit going crazy, duplicating files.. why is that? ohooh

Vaska A / 2009-04-26 18:30:05

Nevermind...I'm speaking from the future...only when you arrive will that statement make sense.

marwan / 2009-04-26 18:35:13

lol !
