Filezilla/File Permissions

jwaas / 2013-07-19 01:37:47

I have a PC and am using windows 7. I downloaded filezilla as my FTP Application and am using HostGator as my host. HostGator only allows 755 File Permissions. I uploaded the files and checked them to make sure they were 755. After I did all that, I went to install indexhibit and it didn't work. Any help?

755 will work just fine.

But you can't set all your permissions globally - only the ones we tell you to change.

Correct, thats what I did. I changed only the files that I read were supposed to be changed. However, it still didn't work. Should i try a different FTP Application? Does HostGator and the fact that I'm using windows add to the problem? Thank you for the response.

I think it may be something I'm doing wrong with HostGator. In the CPanel it doesn't seem to recognize my FTP Account.

Hello!

Did you purchase your webhosting from Hostgator from the link found in the very end of the Webhosting section in this site?
What's your url address btw?

jwaas / 2013-07-19 14:16:02

My Domain is jacobwaas.com
My IP is 198.57.247.131

I purchased my webhosting from Hostgator through one of their three plans they offered. I chose the smallest plan on a monthly basis, the hatchling plan, that way I wasn't tied into anything for a year or something. I had planed to upgrade my account after I successfully started my site. I know nothing about all this stuff, so I just used videos and read about what I needed to do, so I could have done several things wrong.

I didn't ask this - I asked if you registered to Hostgator via the Webhosting link on the left.
Anyhow: I've installed in Hostgator server many times and there's little that could go wrong.

Did you upload in the root directory of your server?
I'm typing jacobwaas.com/ndxzstudio/… and I get a 404 error which means that the file is not there.

Sorry, no i went directly through hostgator.com on a separate webpage. That was my next question, regarding the FTP application. I downloaded Filezilla, and to my knowledge there is no root directory with Filezilla, it goes directly through in to the public_html? I think? I really don't know. Thank you for helping me.

Vaska A / 2013-07-19 18:14:40

No, it doesn't go directly to the root folder. You have to find 'public_html' and then upload to it.

Well I can't figure out how to find or create the directory through Filezilla...I downloaded, uninstalled and re downloaded it...and it still wasn't anywhere to be found. Is there another windows based FTP application that you could suggest?

I got the files into the public_html directory. I know its there because I can see the files through the hostgator CPanel. In the CPanel it says its apart of the public_html. All the permissions are correct too. So what else could it be?

Vaska A / 2013-07-20 02:03:05

How did you get the files there? If you used Cpanel to move the files that's not going to work...those files manager tools are terrible...

It's possible that your files are there but they don't have the right permissions and are still unviewable.

Until we can see the files via a web browser this isn't an Indexhibit issue.

I don't know why you haven't asked us to install this for you since you signed up using our code...we did get the credit for it...

I was just saying that uploaded the files via filezilla and then could see them in the public_html on the CPanel thats all. If you could install this for me that would be fantastic....let me know how that works.
