isapi_rewrite instead of mod_rewrite

evl / 2013-11-13 15:31:11

My question involves my attempt to Enable Clean URLs. I tried enabling by following the instructions given by Indexhibit, without result.
So I phoned my hosting service and they told me they use isapi_rewrite instead of mod_rewrite. That is where I got stuck and need some help.
Are you by any chance familiar with this problem and could you tell me how to make adjustments to clean my URLs in this case?
Thank you very much! ericavanloon.nl

I have never heard of isapi_rewrite. Are you not on a Linux server?

isapi_rewrite is a mod_rewrite compatible thing for Windows servers.
Indexhibit is Linux-friendly as described in the Installation help/support page.
Ask your host to move you to a Linux...

And/or, is there any data out there about isapi compatible rewrite rules?

Now I remember isapi...from five years ago when I couldn't figure out how it was supposed to do anything. Another reason why I still feel comfortable being on Linux/Apache servers (as stated in our system requirements).

thanks for the quick responses!
I checked online and you're right, my host is working with Windows Server 2003 web servers. I will see if they can move me to a Linux, but I doubt they have one (can only call them again tomorrow morning).

I didn't run into any other difficulties yet, but could be because I 'm just starting up my website.
Where else do you expect problems?

2003? ;)

Everything might work just fine. But, as far as url rewriting - I don't know much about isapi and when I spent time (years ago) trying to work with it I could tell it was severely deficient.

weird, but i'm happy.
