I was about to download Filezilla as my FTP client, but came across loads of recent reviews saying it will download malware onto my computer and to avoid it at all costs. Has anyone else experienced this? Can anyone recommend an alternative that is easy to use with Indexhibit?

I won't use it. I also won't use Cyberduck (which has a different set of issues).
If you are on a Mac use Coda or Transmit - not free but if you want to play on the web these are the best tools. Coda, is both an online code editor and FTP application in one. Worthy investments:
On a PC, I really don't know. I ask around but I don't think I know or work with a single person who uses Windows anymore.
