Top horizontal menu?

penstrom / 2009-03-06 20:09:09

I been hunting for the past few weeks on how to get the menu that goes horizontal across the top of the page like http://www.buro-gds.com/07/ .

Is there anyone who can tell what to do or where to start? Thanks in advance.

try inserting in a google web search:
horizontal menu site:http://indexhibit.org/forum

and you might want to check this thread.

Be sure you read to the end of the thread...

Guys I've tried many times reading all the threads about it but still can't manage to achieve a top horizontal menu, because when I substitute the Index.php in the plugin folder (I believe that the author was Netsvetaev but I'm not sure since I read so many posts) my exhibits disappear, don't know why....

the top would be achieve this result:

http://out-of-paper.ch/

i have my menus collapsable, but I'd love to have a horizontal layout, maybe in a box like the website above.

Don't wanna bother you, I tried and tried but can't manage! :(

Thank you so much

I wish I had time right now...it's a bunch of work. We have one for the new version already...

Vaska A / 2009-03-25 14:50:55

And this could be helpful.

But, you would still need to rewrite the navigation plugin...or...if you know javascript really well you could rewrite it that (not recommended for the faint of heart).

Vaska A / 2009-03-26 00:02:51

I tossed one that I made long ago onto the demo...could somebody test this for me in the various IE's? IE6 especially.

Some formats don't really work well with it...but I don't think this is such a big deal.

Go to the 'Online Demo' and go into Exhibits > Settings. Change the Template Set to Horizontal and then check out the site to see it in action.

Obviously, a normal site would not have this many pages...it's a test environment.

I've already created one of these for the new version of Indexhibit. I just came across this tonight and spent 20 mins making some alterations and a super fast template for it.

Let me know what you see...I'll fix it up and make it available.

cruz / 2009-03-26 00:13:20

woot! :) As a quick test it seems it doesn't agree with slideshow, the menu gets under the images!

Vaska A / 2009-03-26 00:49:41

Fixed that already. Got some footer issues too.

Vaska A / 2009-03-26 12:36:53

carlo / 2009-03-26 15:51:43

Vaska A / 2009-03-26 22:00:28

Haha...at least you acknowledge it. ;)

Nobody has tested this in IE6 yet?

When somebody does and gives me the all clear we'll ship it.

Vaska A / 2009-03-27 13:00:27

Hello...somebody?

carlo / 2009-03-27 13:24:47

seems to be nobody...
I don't have IE6!

cruz / 2009-03-27 14:13:59

I don't have IE at all. IE 6 somebody?

Vaska A / 2009-03-27 14:18:42

Actually...I checked the stats recently regarding browser share...11% of our traffic uses IE. And only 26% of that traffic used IE6.

So if there were 100,000 visits only (roughly) 2,700 would have been IE6. So, 2.7% IE6.

CarlosP / 2009-03-27 14:27:49

Hi!
I've just tried it with IE 7 and it doesn't work.
Well, it's horizontal menu but you can't click the buttons inside on sections... it dessapears!

I hope I can help...

Take care and many thanks for your work!

Vaska A / 2009-03-30 15:25:15

I realized last night that this isn't the one I thought I had created...because it doesn't work!

I'll find the one that works...or fix this one...soon.

Hey guys...check it again...

If you don't know what I'm talking about read the thread...

It works in IE7 for me...what about 8? Do we are about 6 anymore?

;)

lota / 2010-03-26 19:56:52

Hi Vaska

Thanks for all your time in advance. I have checked arround and I wouldn't border you if I couldn't manage by myself.
I've read the thread, I have checked the demo, but couldn't find the horizontal layout.

Is it going to be accesible soon? I don't want to rush you at all, is just to know... it sounds like you have it almost ready^^

Thanks a lot!!!

rowstyles / 2010-03-27 03:42:37

lota/penstrom:

I've simplified my CSS severely (which actually helped me achieve a horizontal nav easily).

Essentially, the main edit you have to make to the default style sheet that comes with indexhibit is removing your 'menu ul' line and replacing it with 'menu li' and the proper variables. This will create a list of nav items which can be spanned to any width and then the nav div will nest above the content div without any issues.

Here's my site:

http://www.rowenfrazer.com

Good luck!

Thank you for your answer!
Your explanation looks easy to follow, I'm going to try my best, let's see what I can achieve... I get any good result I will post it.

your menu looks exactly what I am looking for.
simple & clear & fix
Thanks again!

No problem let us know how it goes.

Skatar / 2011-01-29 03:12:45

What happened to this in the end?

Are there files available to create a horizontal menu, on the top, above exhibits?

Best,
Skatar
