Create full-browser background img

muk1980 / 2010-03-18 00:32:49

I really like the full browser background plug-in!! Have I missed instruction written somewhere in this thread how I can make random background? I saw couple of indexexhibit sites with these functions, Is there another thread I have to google for?

dkwhy / 2010-03-19 16:31:31

Hi there, I would like to thank you for the great support on this site. I have been following Arsondpi instructions and have managed to get the background plugin working halfway. The background is resizing but it seems to be ontop of all my content. I cannot see my menu!?
Is there anybody here that could have a look at it for me here? I do not not understand where I am going wrong!
Thanks in advance
David

arsondpi / 2010-03-19 20:33:20

you're missing code -repeat steps4 and 5 from the DO_ME_FIRST.html file of the download.

dkwhy / 2010-03-20 10:35:11

Thank you Arsondpi for having a look! It made me have a good look at the code yet again! I fainally realised that I had been putting steps 4 and 5 in the wrong place!
Thanks again for all the help an great instructions!

brof / 2010-03-22 12:51:32

Ei, thanks i managed to make the fullbackground img work with the DO_ME_FIRST.HTML instructions, but: anyone can tell me what to do to make it work with IE? where should i look for info? salut!

mAgiemAge / 2010-03-23 13:15:16

Hi everyone.
First of all thanks for all your work on this project and all your help in this forum.

Mys question is simple.
I'm working on a friend website
http://www.romainlaffuephotography.com
I managed to put the ful bacground image but i really like to put the main page backrgound in a random mode as this site:
http://definingform.com/

Can somehone could help me please?

ivo_valadares / 2010-04-07 20:38:25

Good evening.

I'm using thecentered theme and it would be nice to have a resing background image like some websites of users i saw in previous post.

Seems like nobody is using this theme.

I followed all instructions in the "do-me-first, except two line of the code for the css, width: 100%; and height: 100%; because it would change everything.

In fact the image that is supposed to be background is over resized and will be small resizing the window. Kind like opposite.

I updated jquery and I think all is well done. Read the 8 pages of this post and no can do.

Anyone could give a hand?

Good night and thanks.

arsondpi / 2010-04-07 21:43:45

Just so you know this plugin reacts to the backgrounds width as well as height.
And since your image has long landscape rectanglular shape, I'm not sure its gonna work as you want it to...
What you're after is rather easy to accomplish with simple html+css...
You'll better search the web...

ivo_valadares / 2010-04-07 22:20:35

I see what you mean. I changed to a new one with 800X600 px

the only thing I did was to add a little shadow on top, then the rest is transparent and in the bottom the landscape. I anyway it's a full image.

Like what happened in the other image, looks like they appear in a very hight pixel size even I'm not using such sizes. The other one was 900X600.

Do you know why the image is over the text?

Thanks.

ivo_valadares / 2010-04-07 22:23:06

Sorry, litle mistake, 900x200 px.

Sorry

arsondpi / 2010-04-07 22:36:14

just add position: relative to your wrapper...

ivo_valadares / 2010-04-07 22:42:14

Thanks for the answer. It worked.

I'm reading the code, posts over and over, comparing and I don't get why the image appear so big when it should fit the window. and I'm not using that big.

Any clue, any one? Arsondpi?

ivo_valadares / 2010-04-07 23:05:51

It's very interesting that here the background image is so scaled...

And here, should appear fitting window.

Both background images have more or less same size.

Everything is done according as instructed... or at least I hope.

pfffffffffffffffffffff. It blows my mind away.

I'm depressed. I go sleep

1872mm / 2010-04-08 07:27:17

Good morning,

Fisrt of all, great plugin. Love it!
I'm now trying for a few days to get the full-browser background to work, but somehow it doesn't work yet.

Hope someone can give me conformation if the next things are correct or not.

1. I updates my Jquery by copy/past the update code into the jquery.js file. Is that all to do?
2. I uploaded a background picture to the '/files' dir in the root of the website. Is this the correct place?

I hope to error is in one of these to point. because otherwise its gonna be a frustrating day again:)

Here you can find my site where I'm working on.

ivo_valadares / 2010-04-08 08:02:48

Hey 1872mm

I think the first one is correct.

The second and if you read the do_me_thing:

Says in the end that you have to upload a image in the exhibit you are. On you backend in the right?

Tell me how it went because I'm having serious issues too

1872mm / 2010-04-08 10:56:08

Thnx ivo_valadares it works!

I think the problem was I uploaded the background picture to a 'hidden' exhibit.

If I can help let me know.

ivo_valadares / 2010-04-08 11:06:52

Nice boat.

I have the problem that the image will only fit window when i resize the window: Webpage

And here, the image is way over size. Webpage

Both background images are different.

Do you have any idea what is causing this or what am I doing wrong?

Thanks

ivo_valadares / 2010-04-08 11:22:41

Hello.

I was checking the website with firebug and while inspecting the element:

  1. <img width="800" height="600" alt="" src="http://www.queerlisboa.pt/site/files/1_background.png" style="height: 1179px; width: 1572px;">

The "image" size is correct but then the "style"????

Why is the image so over sized? almost the double of the size.

Anyone could help me?

ivo_valadares / 2010-04-08 12:01:58

Hope I'm not posting like shooting in the dark.

In previous post I said there was some problem with image not resizing as it should.

I went to my back-end and where I upload the image with the "image Max size" as 400 px.

So I though why not go and check it and changed to "fullpx" et voil√°...

I feel very stupid. so f... stupid.

ivo_valadares / 2010-04-08 12:09:33

More stupid. Is not that. Is the firebug that is making the web reacting like that.

In safari opens with the problem. Webpage

Arrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh

1872mm / 2010-04-08 14:57:30

Have you tried it with a landscape photo?
Maby a stupid idea, but you never know:-)

ivo_valadares / 2010-04-08 15:29:35

I changed for a kind of llandscape: 1200 x 900.

It works but not it is suposed too. Only when resizing.

There is something I'm not doing right and...

ivo_valadares / 2010-04-08 15:41:47

And you know what? it's working. Don't know in IE...

I'm amazed

arsondpi / 2010-04-08 18:16:12

ivo I don't understand what the problem is...
The plugin keeps a ratio between the height and the width of the image, aligning it from the top left of the browser.
I suggested to use a normal landscape image (4:3 for example) and not to tweek the height/wisth of the image directly.

If you're after a long landscape image that aligns to the bottom of the browser and still change its width depending on the browser window, then I'm afraid that you should be after a different solution 'cause this doesn't work this way...

ivo_valadares / 2010-04-08 20:16:29

Hello arsondpi. Me either.

After you said that the landscape would be a problem I changed for a 800X600px. With a transparent background I get the effect I want.

What happens is that the image apperas over sized, not fiting in some sort of way the browser.

If in firefox over the background you check "see image" you'll see that the image is 800x600.

It obvious that there is something wrong here, or it's just is not working with this theme.

ivo_valadares / 2010-04-08 20:17:21

and of course Webpage

arsondpi / 2010-04-08 21:11:22

That's what I typed above: this is the way the plugin works.
The image fits into the window having the top left corner as a starting point.
I just do not see anything wrong. The plugin works as expected - you're propably looking for something else.

ivo_valadares / 2010-04-08 21:28:07

no. we're no seing same thing.

If the image is only 800X600?

how come it disappear not fitting the window properly?

This is how the image is:

Webpage

And here what I see is a image that on a first start is way oversized, no fitting somehow the browser limits.

Webpage

The image I'm using is a standard 800X600

This morning using firebug i got this:

  1. <img width="800" height="600" alt="" src="http://www.queerlisboa.pt/site/files/1_background.png" style="height: 1179px; width: 1572px;">

Is obvious that there is something wrong here, and for me is really disappointing not be able to go through this. Life ain't easy!

arsondpi / 2010-04-08 21:34:19

I may not be explaining this well... I give up...

ivo_valadares / 2010-04-08 22:08:18

Arsondi, I hope you forgive me.

Been doing some experiments and sorry for be wasting your time and patient.

Need to see tomorrow in a bigger screen.

Thanks
and sorry.

7 / 2010-04-08 22:24:28

Ivo, you understand that the plugin works by resizing the image relative to the area of the browser yeah?

So your image of 800x600 gets enlarged in proportion to the size of your browser window, which is probably greater (or different dimenions) than the original if you are seeing an 'oversized' image. right?

Try dragging the browser window around in size to see the plugin resizing your image to different sizes, on the fly ;)

ivo_valadares / 2010-04-08 22:38:40

Yes. It's working now. And it was before. The issue was with the image I was using and what I wanted people to see.

So what I did was moving the duck closer to the center so it stays visible.

And arsondpi was so damn right

I was wondering if is possible to change the starting point of the image. Instead of "top" "left", like "botton" "right".

Going to try

jonathangrevsen / 2010-04-11 16:36:43

Hey Guys.

I am using the background plugin, but it makes my slideshow strange. Now all photos are visible. Can anybody help?

http://mariehald.dk/projects/mig-og-min-kugle/

Thanks

jonathangrevsen / 2010-04-11 17:52:41

Note to previous post. In Safari, it works fine, but in FF it creates the problem.

arsondpi / 2010-04-12 08:26:34

Your page seems to have html errors. Use the html validator to fix these errors.

al_milez / 2010-04-17 20:16:09

Hey guys,

Ive tried to recreate this effect with a slide show much like this website. http://www.centrodesign.co.uk/output/centro-/

But I have not had any luck. I downloaded arsondpi's file and tutorial for the plug in ( which were excellent by the way). Can anyone give me some direction for this plug in to work?

I updated my jquery to 1.4 and uploaded all necessary files. I want it so I can upload files through the interface so they will just be full screen when I view the site.

heres the link. http://jacobfrancekphotography.com/

arsondpi / 2010-04-17 21:04:40

I made a similar plugin using a different script and I'm currently testing it.
Don't l know if/when I'm gonna release it so anyone into this have a go.

al_milez / 2010-04-17 23:14:07

Do you have any advice for what I should do with mine?

arsondpi / 2010-04-18 09:34:45

Not really I use a different script so...

mAgiemAge / 2010-04-19 16:15:26

Hi Arsondpi!
Please can you have a look at my web site
romain laffue
I 've got a huge problem that i don't manage to resolve.
I would like to have a random full background on this columner theme but i didn't manage to make it happen.
It's been one month that i'm working on it (yes it's a shame) and i am really begging someone for help!

I've been following every single steps from your tutorial but haven't got any good ( in the same time, haven't see any columner theme using this system....)

codewolvz / 2010-04-22 22:45:51

Hiya. I'm trying to use Fullbackground Img and Horizontal Dropdown Menu at the same time and after muddling around in Indexhibit without any experience in coding, I've gotten it to half-sort of work. But I've got two problems. 1. The content is for some reason pushed to the right side of the page. and 2. When I click on my image links, it just spools without the image enlarging as it should be doing. Any help would be great!

WEBSITE

tspill / 2010-04-30 14:42:39

Love how easy this works.

Although I'm having a problem with the IE 6 browser, CSS, and the arsondpi plugin. Seems that the scrollbar is disabled on all pages on Internet Explorer 6.1. This breaks the site where there's a load of content that runs below the window.

Works fine on other browsers.

Example page: http://stringtheory.ltd.uk/project/foodchain-text/

It may be something to do with the overflow property?
Has anyone else come across this? Is there an "ie.css" file for this release?

Also, shouldn't this plugin be added as an official download?

arsondpi / 2010-04-30 16:18:15

@ mAgiemAge Sorry I don't know what could be wrong.

@ codewolvz Your image links work fine from my end. The rest is css tweaks that have nothing to do with this plugin

@ tspill I dropped IE6 support last year. I can't help you out with this one...sorry. Maybe someone else.? An official release - hmmm... it could... but there's a new Indexhibit version coming up...

patrickroppel / 2010-05-10 14:44:03

this is a fantastic plug in and the instructions are great. worked right away. but only in the exhibit where i uploaded the background image. now i would like to use one resizable background image throughout the whole website. is this possible and if so, where do i need to ajust?

thanks for helping.

Klara / 2010-05-25 21:13:21

Hi everyone!
I started fixing up my sisters site and I used wobble-box and jquery 1.4.2

Somehow after installing this plugin the wobblebox stopped working and I wonder why.

  1. < plug:backgrounder color='<%color% >', img='<%bgimg% >', tile='<%tiling% >' /> that I was suppose to find in step 3 wasnt found? Could something in the index.php make wobblebox stop?

The website is http://darkskiesassociation.org/

arsondpi / 2010-05-26 11:22:00

I don't see a link with an example of the actual problem...

Klara / 2010-05-26 13:00:15

arsondpi: I was just about to post that the problem was resolved on its own!
Turns out I had updated the css but it wasnt updated on the ftp..... *blush*

Thank you anyway!

I'm pretty sure I've done everything by the book. Triple checked it all.

But it doesn't work.

Site isHERE

Does it matter if I upload the image via the file manager vs. the image uploader?

Does it matter which exhibition format I'm using?

Many thanks for the help.

er.... It works when you upload a background image. It's the button in the pale yellow box when editing an exhibit.

This thread has been closed, thank you.
