Apart from the work in there, would be great if anyone out there will be able to contribute on how to improve the technical aspect of the website. That would be most helpful.

Hey I like the look of your site. How do you do those dropdown menus on the side??

Search accordion menu, drop down menu, expanding menu, etc...
Maybe it's better to start out in the "useful threads" section. There is something there referencing it.

The website looks cool. I would maybe center the menu to balance with the logo.
hum... that's is more a graphic opinion... hum...

Technically, it works. So it's fine.
Test it in IE7 (IE6 if you want) and you're done.

Fun works!

Thanks iwakami.

I've purposely flush the logo to the right; so to have a graphical grid as per the menu.

What I think would be nice to have is to have automated Accordion menu with mouse over! I've tried doing some studies on the threads and thru the internet, but it seems very complicated to me. (PS: I knew nothing about coding, html, etc. Plain rookie)

Anyone could help?

Hey Michael-

The site is awesome- I just noticed that new quotes come up with every homepage refresh. Very awesome idea.

I like your color scheme.
I like your font and general aesthetic.

the one thing i would change would be to move your 'info' segment to the last position. I personally just like to see people's work before reading about them.

Your work is great so you have an automatic A+.

Hi Alex,

Thanks for the comment.

The random quote in the main page is quite fun, providing that I've enough of those quotes to keep the interesting going.

I've been contemplating if the INFO should be the 1st in the menu or last. I've previously tried having it at the last. But thinking about it, for first time visitor, probably they would been keen to know more about me and what I do. That was my rationale for having it in the 1st menu.

I mean, there's no right and wrong...in fact, having it at the end of the menu is great as well!

Hope there's more participants here that would give my website a visit, and some input.

Your site is beautiful but some photos are big. Not in dimensions but in kb. There are many of them 250 - 350 kb. These sizes are huge for Internet and sometimes is slowwww...

Hi Geokaza,

Thanks for visiting and the observation. Hmmn, 250-350kb is huge? Well, the pic size is actually in the dimension I required (No more than 500px height) so that the work can be seen in it's best glory.

However, I don't know how to get the file size (kb) down any further without sacrificing the image quality. It's now crispy and in details, which I loved!

Any pointers?

Personally I like the setup, its easy and lets the work be seen clearly. How did you get the mouse over accordion menu? I tried a few things but no luck. I wanted it to mouse over drop down from the logo image but still haven't figured out how. The type is good too. You have a lot going for you here. It's clean and nice, and looks like that was intentionally what you were going for. The menu really sells it. It could be pushed further but doesn't need to be. I think it showcases your work in a way that compliments it.

@Rodebloem,

Thanks for your compliment. That makes my day...and fire up my New Year. :D

Yes, I've tried quite a lot of 'trial and error' to get the automatic mouse over accordion menu. Initially, it's just Click and Expand type of menu but after doing some research on the internet as well as going through some Source Code of some other Indexhibit participants, I've managed to crack it. Honestly, there are quite a few good website in the participant list, and you'll be able to learn quite a lot from observing other people's source code.

Alot of 'trial and error' (and many previous days) but it's worthwhile! Most importantly, whatever you do...keep back-up and make sure your mind is clear so that you can easily keep track and back track to those modification that you've made. That's one of the reason why I'm fumbling around in front of the laptop till wee hours of the day, coz I might forgotten the 'tracks' if I take a long break. *wink

Love Indexhibit! Love experimenting and exploring.

Thanks Vaska and Eatock, and those adventurers in here.

Quick reply regarding the image size puppipoppy... Resizing in Microsoft Expression Media is in my view the best way to get file sizes down without loosing quality. I have tried almost every image programme under the sun and nothing beats it.

Apart from the 'Travel' and 'Aviation' sections all of my images on my homepage have been resized in Expression.

File sizes rarely go up past 100kb. 50 - 70kb usually and they are all 750px longest side so a good size.

Nice work by the way.

Nice design and great work.

I have some reservations about the menu. At first it impresses, but it soon makes me feel giddy. If I scoot down to open everything up, and then go round and back up to the top, to start looking at individual exhibits, each section closes as I approach it - frustrating, no? For me it's too busy and distracting and does the opposite of what it's supposed to do (i.e. make a large amount of info seem more manageable).

Also, I don't like cropped thumbnails. The Beetle ads, for example. Great work, but the cropped thumbs look like boring stock shots. If the user has time, this 'reveal' can be impressive. But a hurried user, who clicks on a few exhibits and only glances at the thumbnails, will not get a proper idea of what you're about.

Overall though, it's a great implementation of indexhibit.
