I'm trying to put some colour behind my text in the contend.
I'm using a background image and it makes it difficult to read the text.
Has anyone been successful and doing this?

I need to clean up the site its messy at the moment.
I used html to get the background colour on the text. but i want to get all the text for photo descriptions ect with a coloured background. The aim is so i can use photos for every background image on the page.

To get color on the descriptions you will likely need to make some all edits to the Grow exhibit format directly - adjusting the CSS and/or maybe even adding a little html to the output to make the backgrounds possible.
