But, its possible that your host doesn't even have mod_rewrite on the server - you should check with them (if the file is really there).

Or, you might need to edit the htaccess file - there are some threads around here about that as well.

my first post here after self-didacting webdesign & Indexhibit... thanks everybody for the contributions!

I transferred a ready site from a different domain, imported the database phpMyAdmin, now the site is there but most of the pages and URLs look horrible.

any tips what is missing?

aw, forget it. it was an issue of changing back non-clean URLs by
define('MODREWRITE', false);
in /ndxz-studio/defaults.php

My host definitely supports mod_rewrites, I checked. I'll check on editing the .htaccess file.

srsondpi- Yes, the website still works from meredith-nelson.com/ndxz-studio, but the point is to get it to work from just meredith-nelson.com. as a clean url.

OK So I ended up just deleteing the indexhibit files from my site and re-uploading them, and now the clean URL seems to work fine. Still not sure what was going on, but anyway, it works now!

Hey there...

just wanted to drop in and say all went well when moving the site from a development subfolder to the root of the site.

As a little hint to those struggeling: in many host's cases, the root folder of your website is /httpdocs/, and this is where your site should mostly live... :-)

Thanx a bunch, everyone!

Thanks for the note, but, on many hosts it's not 'httpdocs'. Just want to clarify this so people are looking for the wrong thing. The best place to find this info is by asking the host...all hosting setups are a bit different.

Hi there,

\n\n

having the same problem, just moved the site to the root folder, the main page works but the rest gives me a 404 error. I tried making the htaccess visible by errasing the period in its name as someone suggested before in this thread but still is not working.

\n\n

Any ideas?

Yeah, because you didnt move the .htaccess file as well. Just create a new one, following the installation instructions for that part, in the root. All will be great then...

Hmmm... now I made the htaccess invisible again and everything sort of works except I get this ugly message on top of everything>

\n\n

Warning: getimagesize(http://jh-architecture.com/files/gimgs/5_1_v2.jpg) [function.getimagesize]: failed to open stream: no suitable wrapper could be found in /nfs/c02/h05/mnt/16143/domains/jh-architecture.com/html/ndxz-studio/site/plugin/exhibit.iwakami_Julia.php on line 70

\n\n

What does \"suitable wrapper\" means? Everything was working when it wasn\'t in the root :(

\n\n

Thanks!

Hello
It might not be the right thread but I can't find a better one and I am sort of in a rush.
My server is zuzamade.nazwa.pl (name of the host's server is "nazwa.pl)

I created my site in a directory "zuzamade" and after all work was done, I directed domain name "zuzamade.com" to that directory (always worked fine with html sites ).
I only got main page right, the rest was 500 error.
I put new htaccess file into "zuzamade" direcory (as I noticed it wasn't there before), changed in defaults.php "define('MODREWRITE', false);".
The site works sort of OK but I can't get back my clean URL's when I follow the instruction.

Another thing is when I go to my indexhibit for editing and previewing the website, it keeps sending me back to "zuzamade.nazwa.pl/zuzamade"

I have "'sql.zuzamade.com';" in config.php so I believe I am linked properly with theh database.

I would appreciate it anyone could help me in the coming few hours with clean URL'S
Thanks

Hello.

Have been working on my site in a subfolder, but would now like to move it back to the root, replacing an older Indexhibit (which I left as a holding page). Tried to do this by moving the content of the subfolder to the root, and the root to a new subfolder, but this did not work? Would overwriting the root be better? Or deleting the root and then moving in the new files?

My host says I'd better start form scratch. He says Idexhibit, does not know what to do with my files, when I move them form the subfolder to the root? So i deleted my root and installed a new indexhibit, but the ndxz-studio still brings up the old site?! Is this really the only way forward? Please, anyone?

No, it's not. Should never have listened to your host. You have mixed up the locations of the files. Indexhibit is very portable if you move everything together...

Vaska, hi. Ok, should i try to delete the malfunctioning Indexhibit in my root (which we just discussed in the other thread), and then move the subfolder site to the root?

I don't know what you really want/need to do? This is confusing...

Work on the site that NEEDS to be worked on.

Well I need to get the sub site up on the root but i though this was not an option, hence the fuss.. I will attempt this again now.

Of course it's an option - go for it.

I recommend backing up your files first.

I'm hanging around for a bit...let me know how it goes.

Vaska, its done.. It took 1 minute, and its done :D And so far everything seems to function ok. Must have done something wrong when moving the files around originally. I am so relieved I could cry. However, my database prefix in defaults.php is still ThePiips_, last time I changed it back to ndxz_, but should i just leave this as it works?

If it works don't touch it. Backup the files NOW.

If you have other problems, start a new thread - this one is about moving the directory only.
