Hello,

I'm almost done with my "new" website and about to go live soon. However some colleges pointed out some problems when viewed with IE compared to Safari/Firefox/Opera. I'm on a mac and don't have a PC to check these all out.. but it's important for me to fix this, as you can imagine.

1. The blog/info links below the logo don't seem to line left properly with the Logo.

2. On the main page, the top filter menu doesn't show or something like that. And possibly layout mismatch with other browsers.

.. and maybe some other issues?

This is my upcoming Webpage.

Again, I'm working "blind" here when it comes to IE, and i'm not a programer, but if anyone can point me to fixes on the CSS or php pages, i'll appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!

Angus

I'm just playing around...unfortunately I don't have a Windows machine near me.

1. I don't see any logos - you mean your name?

2. "top filter"...you mean "all"?

yes and yes :)

well... that whole line: "all | portraits | series | stories.. etc"

thanks for looking, vaska! i hope i'm not offending anyone by hiding the menu :)
explorer is so frustrating at this stage, maybe it's just a matter of applying the fixes in a separate css for IE.. but i just don't know what or where + no PC.

But, how do you know they aren't working on the PC. And yes, changes should be made to the ie.css file for IE6 and below.

What you should do...is set a script to determine which browser people are using. If it's IE6 or below simply refer them to a hidden page (you can create in your cms) that tells them how and where to get a "modern" web browser.

You can't race a 10 year old formula 1 car in todays race...and a 10 year old web browser needs to be retired. Your computer isn't even 10 years old...

some friends pointed out misalignment in the Logo navigation section. and some other said they couldn't see the top filter navigation... i think they were on IE7 or 8... and it seemed to do more with CSS positioning rather than things not working... so i figured it's easily fixable... IF I had a damn PC around with IE on it! :)

yes, i suppose a browser forwarding script would keep my hand clean.. but it kinda sounds like the "Ultimate Solution" to me..

The problem with IE6 and I believe 7 is that it needs some really lame solution to make it do the Indexhibit template. We tried everything...many times over...aside from forcing interface via javascript (which is really not the best thing to do). So, how they work (at least IE6) is that while it appears to have a px value for the width of the #menu it actually ends up using a % value. This explains why "all" is covered up (by the #menu div).

Because you allow your logo and nav to scroll with your images you don't need the base Indexhibit template anymore. You should rebuild it such that the #menu is a natural height...a width in all browsers you can control (with only one stylesheet).

I think the problem with your links not aligning properly is probably a box-model issue...do you have some padding or margin on the links themselves? Or perhaps on the ul or li elements? Check those things...shouldn't be hard to fix once you see where IE is getting the box-model wrong.

Finally...you really should be able to do this site with only one stylesheet. I think that the ie.css file is only making matters worse for progress here. Take it out of the template...rework #menu and it will be better.

thanks so much vaska! I also believe it's fixable with one stylesheet.. in ideal circumstances (e.i. having a PC). I'll try your suggestions and different things and see how far i come.

if i only could have screen grabs off a PC to see the changes. wasn't there a web service for that somewhere?
