Hi,

I have read through all of the other posts, but dont seem to have seen an explanation to my problem.

Last night i installed indexhibit, went through all the database login and started to design my site. But when i came back to it this morning i couldn't log in at

http://www.jacksnellphotography.com/ndxz-studio

the error messege read:

The requested URL /ndxz-studio was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Apache/2.2.16 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.16 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 DAV/2 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 mod_perl/2.0.4 Perl/v5.8.8 Server at www.jacksnellphotography.com Port 80

is it just me being stupid? i havent moved any folders or changed anything.

here you can see the start of my site

http://www.jacksnellphotography.com/indexhibitv070e

Cheers, Jack

Hi,

I've tried a few different url's but continue to run into the 404 error.

http://www.svanh.com/indexhibitv070c/ndxz-studio/install.php

http://www.svanh.com/public_html/indexhibitv070c/ndxz-studio/install.php

Could there be a conflict with the previous coding from my current website, created by another person?

Because you uploaded the 'indexhibitv070e' folder and files...instead of only the files from that folder...your installer is here...

Hello Vaska.
I know i'm going to ask the same question about this 404 error to you...

Ok,I did everyting right (I think...) My web-host supports PHP4 and above,my server is on linux, I have a MySQL5.0, and my FTP app is Cyberduck.

After I passed the contents of the indexhibit folder into my server root folder, and changes permissions to 777 recursively on the three listed folders, when I go to :My web page it just keeps on giving me this 4O4 error.

I' don't know where the problem comes from, can you please help me and/or tell me what to do.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,

I have pulled the contents of the indexhibitv070e folder into my root folder on cyberduck, and changed the permissions, but still get a not found message when I visit:

http://www.emmettzeifman.com/ndxz-studio/install.php

Any thoughts? The message comes from .tumblr--I used to point my .tumblr towards my domain. Is that part of the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Vasca, thanks for your time for such great job of helping us out. Sadly I am getting the same 404 Error message everybody else is getting.I have tried a dozen different things, but it just does not seem to work.

I uploaded to to the "public_html" folder all three indexhibitev070e folders and files "Files, ndxz-studio, htaccess", and tried to gain access with the following links (after changing permissions to 777):
http://www.musielikphotography.com/ndxz-studio/install.php
http://www.musielikphotography.com/public_html/ndxz-studio/install.php
but it just doesn´t seem to work. What am I doing wrong? What is missing?
Could you please help me?
Thank you very much,

do you have a ndxz-studio/defaults.php? I don't get an answer from the license.txt and readme.txt that should be there either. Compare the files in the ndxz-studio folder with a fresh download from indexhibit

Looks like defaults.php is still not there, if you´re sure it is then check to see that all of the index.php files are in the right place(there are many different index.php files, each one has to be in the right place)

as @blameme says: your ndxz-studio/index.php is not the correct one (but a duplicate of the one in your root), replace with a fresh copy

Where did you put your files? If there where there, we could see them...something else is wrong.

You could ask your host to help show you where/how to put files in the correct place on your server.

Or, if the files are really in the right place then there is a permissions issue.

Well, the files are in the right place, so what's a permission issue? Is it the host or something else?
And thank's for the quick answer!

What did you just change? Now it's trying to download the files...

Set the files to 0644 and the folders to 0755. See what happens then.

I'm sure your host won't help you...sheesh...

Something is not right there. Perhaps your server doesn't even have PHP enabled - that's not an Indexhibit issue but a server/webhost issue.

What are people paying for with webhosting these days? Certainly, not support...

My host is domain.com My website is http://dwemmy.net
At the point where permission required changing to 777 for the three apecific files, they were stuck. They finally got the permission chnged through the file manager not FTP. The three "X's turned green and I let them go. So I got the 404 error.

Was domain.com's solution to use the file manager to change permissions correct? IOW, are they off the hook and it's my issue?

Put it this way, with a requirement to multi-task beyond my capabilities, I downloaded without ever registering everything I wanted. I'm more than willing to show you my home acct at domain.com with your files.
No malice was ever intended, it wasn't until I received that error and finally went to the forum page did the registration area reveal itself.
Why don't you put that on the home page? As in," do this first before downloading".
You folks ignored by requests at my yahoo account, among which was a request for services above and beyond.
What's going on here?

so, to recapitulate and repeat myself: you are reporting a 404, so I went to the address you mention in your post and see that indexhibit is not installed. Question: where/when/in what context/situation does that error come? what do you mean?

I received the error message after going to http://dwemmy.net/ndxz-studio/install.php, once I had all green Xs I enetered my site name, database information, and after submitting is when I received the 404 not found message.

This is the context in which I received the 404 not found message.

I apologize for getting ahead of myself, which only made things more confusing.

It looks as if you are missing some file, or that some file got corrupted during upload. It happens, a connection hiccup during upload.

I can see that install.php is missing, you probably deleted it. But just in case, reupload the whole indexhibit again (and don't forget to set permissions again for files, gimgs and config)

Thank you- will do.

With my explanation of what happened and your response in mind, I want to bring to your attention a concern I had during this installation. My web host was unable to change permission using FTP application, but did it using file manager. Both items are located under "manage webspace" in my account with my host Domain.com.

To chnge permissions on the three files to 777 using file manger and not FTP application, is this acceptable?

as long as the permissions are the ones needed, it shouldn't matter. Although I usually don't recommend using the ftp in the control panel, but using an free external one like Filezilla, Cyberduck or FireFTP for Firefox

when you start building up your site, and customizing, you will need to access your site with ftp, and it's a lot more simple and more effective (and probably more reliable too) to use a real tool, and no need to login into your host's control panel all the time

Hello!
at first: I´ve built my webside with indexhibit and I am so happy with it!! Now I try to install a indexhibit webside for my friend (www.philippatschan.de). I´ve done everything like you have described and at first http://www.philippatschan.de/ndxz-studio/install.php brought me to the point after language-selection. Then I´ve filled the terms of database and now I received the XX-message to check the settings in config.php. I was not able to find the mistake in config.php (the change in 777 I had done) and I thought it would be the best to delete the whole indexhibit-files and folders on ftp and upload new. After I´ve done everything again (changing permissions and entries in config.php) and gone to http://www.philippatschan.de/ndxz-studio/install.php. But now it comes everytime the 404-error. I tried the whole day to find the mistake but I couldn´t. Could you please please help me? Thank you very much,
Anja
