Language Selection issue

I'm new to this, and I have to admit I'm not really a code prof.

The problem: Can't select any language, the "Make Selection" tab doesn't offer any languages to choose from, no pull-down menu shows up. So I can't get further from this menu.

Host provider is webland.ch.

Server issue? File naming (I didn't change anything)?

Server provides PHP, MySQL and stuff, so that shouldn't be the problem.
File/folder permissions: It is already/automatically set to chmod 777, can't change it. When I try to set it to 755 I get the following message: Server response "SITE CHMOD 755 files": command not understood

What's wrong?

Thanks!

Ask your host if they can put you on a non-Microsoft server. It will not work on a Microsoft server...you need Linux/Apache.

Thanks Vaska! That's what I was afraid to hear, ouch!

So Microsoft servers definitely don't work, right?

Do you know a free host, good enough to upload a minimal try-out?

Thanks!

Sorry, but free is the wrong way to go.

...thanks. So no way to try it out before buying server space I guess. Good to know.

I think you should probably point out on your site a little bit more obvious that Microsoft servers don't do the job. I'm sure you mentioned that somewhere along the way, but that specific topic seams to come back here in the forum.

So how does that affect the viewers? Let's say if my IP has Microsoft servers do I see all the proper content of other websites created with Indexhibit? Is this just an upload/host issue?

Thanks!

When we upgraded the site we left it out...it will be back shortly.

It affects the viewers zero. It is only a hosting issue.

In the past year...I think maybe 5 people have ever complained about this. I'm pretty busy already doing everything I do to even make Indexhibit possible.

When somebody volunteers their time to solve this issue for us...I'll gladly let it happen.

Did you hear that last weekend millions of MS servers were basically hacked en mass? Yes...I'm happier putting people on open systems.

That makes sense I guess. If it doesn't affect viewers it's fine with me.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate your service and I understand your time restrictions.
I'm just asking to understand where I am with this, and I try to give my input to bring this thing forward, hopefully in your interest.
That's all I can do about solving issues and volunteering for now. As yours, my time is restricted as well.

Peace, Love and Happiness!

After all I changed to a server that claims to be Linux/Appache (Bluehost.com) to resolve the language selection problem.
http://www.graphaz.com/ndxz-studio/install.php
Doesn't work!
Maybe I'm just too stupid, or I just have a lack of web/technology/code knowledge? Is it possible that the domain graphaz.com still goes over the Webland (Microsoft) server?

Looky...

http://www.graphaz.com/ndxz-studio/inst/

Our error note says Microsoft. Yep, it's the server setup...

Consulted the web host. They say it should work (Appache/Linux/Apple/MySQL, PHP, all fine...). They don't have Microsoft servers. It's all Mac!
So how can it be a Microsoft error?! Don't understand this.
But it seams like I put the Indexhibit files in the wrong root folder. Ok. Changed that according their instructions, but it looks still the same, I'm not able to choose any language or go any further...
Called again: So they say I have to create a MySQL database first. Hey, good to know! Never heard before. Alright, why not, maybe missed some info along the way. Well, I did that. But from here, to be honest, I'm completely lost.
Where should the Indexhibit files go now?! What do I do next? Is there an MySQL folder in my file systems on the server? If yes how can I get there with Fetch (FTP upload)?

There is this easy to manage content management system called Indexhibit, for everyone, right? Not for me it seams, not smart enough. I'm not even able to set it up, not even close, and I already spent a lot of time and money on support calls. Makes me feel like an idiot. Checking this forum it seams I'm not the only one...
If anyone got through successfully and can help me to go through the setup process, would be greatly appreciated! I would even change the provider if that's the complicated part here.

Thanks!

zwyeback,

I can't say why, but if i look at the error page that vaska is "linking" to (the page doesn't exist so it throws an error) you can clearly see:

HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found.
Internet Information Services (IIS)

What Vaska meant, I think, is that Internet Information Services (IIS) is the name of the web server technology provided with a Windows server.

It is possible to run windows on a Mac right now (for whatever reason would it be required) so your host could be telling the truth about being all mac, but none the less be running a windows server (One reason would be support for ASP and ASP.NET)

I think this is very unfortunate that you have a bad experience with indexhbit but, from what I can see, I sincerely believe this is a server issue, not an indexhibit one.
