Installing woes

I 1) downloaded the contents and 2) uploaded via FTP. I changed the 3) permissions of files, gimgs and config. I 4) changed htaaccess to .htaaccess. When I went to 5) mysite/ndxz-studio/install.php, I saw a bunch of code. Looking through the forums, I realized it might be due to not having PHP, Apache, and MySQL.

I upgraded my service to what I thought it needed to be, completed steps 1-4 but now when I get to step 5)mysite/ndxz-studio/install.php, I get a 'page not found' site from my host. What am I doing wrong?

My website is - www.jonathanschmitt.com

Thanks-

Is this a free webhost? I have never seen one that worked very well...it's not worth it. I can't support free servers as they are completely unpredictable...

I'm pretty sure the server doesn't even have PHP installed on it. And if it does, it's of the MS variety and we do not support Apache on Microsoft servers.

Not a free host. I initially paid $25 for the domain and hosting. When the uploading went afoul and I upgraded for the PHP/MySQL/Apache needs, I paid a additional $60 so definitely not free. Will a email to their support clarify the Microsoft issues?

Any suggestions? I looked through my hosts website (www.doteasy.com) and didn't see anything screaming 'Microsoft Server'. Anyone?

More info from my hosts search/help forum. It says they support PHP scripts with a higher plan and I did upgrade.

Does Doteasy support PHP scripts
Yes, if you require PHP support for your webfiles, you can choose between our Ultra Hosting and our Unlimited Hosting plans. Both of these plans offer PHP support.

If you are currently subscribed to our $0 Web Hosting services, you will need to upgrade your account to either the Ultra Hosting or the Unlimited Hosting plan. PHP is not supported on our $0 Web Hosting plan.

Sorry J that I wasn't around to see your notes.

I'm curious about your problem...can you send me login details for ftp and your Indexhibit system and I'll take a look at this?

You can trust me...I've been in a ton of folks sites and I can't remember peoples password stuff.

Hi, I am having a similar problem:

when I get to the installation step:

" Installing:

Next, direct your browser to your_site/ndxz-studio/install.php"

I do this and:

"Not Found" comes up in my browser window.

**

I have sucessfully installed the indexhibit software on another server account, with a different domain -- but through the same hosting service (Bluehost.com)

I really hope this isn't a problem because of the subdomains on the account. The domain I am trying to install indexhibit for now (and is causing trouble) -- is a subdomain.

please help, thanks!

Did you use separate databases? Can't you check via ftp where you put the files?

Thanks for the reply.

I will take another look at the databases I am using. There could be a problem there. Yes, I am using Fetch, so I can check via ftp.

> I have actually successfully built a site with indexhibit (on Bluehost.com) just with a different server space and a different domain.

> This time, I am still using Bluehost, but I am using a different server space (different account) with four domains connected to this space.

Hi! I am having the exact same problem that Jschmigga was having earlier in this thread...

I am using DotEasy, and I do pay for PHP/MySQL hosting...

But when i go to the ndxz-studio/install.php page, it still says 404 not found, all the permissions are changed, I do not no where to go from here... I have followed the directions as given...

Jschmigga's site is up and working, so there still is hope for me! Thoughts??

from the looks of things I think you verify which is the root folder with host... (which means that you haven't uploaded the contents of the indexhibit folder in your root directory)

I cant' get anything to appear on your site...could be some kind of a permissions issue or you should ask your host if they can figure out why you can't see your files. But, for the moment, this isn't an Indexhibit issue.

Hello there,

I have gone through the install process and I am at this point:

OK Looks like the database is ready.

The default login / password is index1 / exhibit.

Change these and your site settings once inside.

Let's login!

When I click lets login, it doesn't allow me to do anything. What do you suggest the problem may be? I can't do anything else, it wont let me create anything.

Thnx

You could try the Password Reset Script that is found on the Downloads page. And, if that doesn't work, sounds like the install failed...only thing to do is start over fresh and try again.
