OK, so now a question about Heading

Hello again,

Thank you again for your help earlier with my other question. Now, I'm wondering if there's a way to create sub-headings underneath the Section Headings on the site. In other words, I would like to create a top-level heading called, "Photography" but there won't be any exhibits under this heading. Instead, there will be multiple sub-headings under it which contain the exhibits. For example, under the photography heading will be: Fashion, Couture, Architecture, Kids... each one of these sections contain multiple exhibits.

If you'd like to see what I mean: http://www.fotomojosm.com/test is the URL to the site I'm working on. The index looks like this:

Del Geronimo
Photographer | Fashion Show Producer
415 240 7923
United States

Introduction (Section Heading)
Design Like You Give a Damn (exhibit)
I Am (exhibit)
PHOTOGRAPHY (**THIS IS THE PROPOSED TOP LEVEL HEADING THAT I'D LIKE TO ADD)
Fashion (Section Heading)
Alexandria Von Bromssen (exhibit)
Andrew Hague (exhibit)
Couture (exhibit)
Jasmin Zorlu Millinery (exhibit)
Events (Section Heading)
San Francisco Magazine (exhibit)
SOMA Magazine (exhibit)
Surface Magazine (exhibit)
Fashion Show Events (Section Heading)
Fashion Victim (exhibit)
Heaven 11 (exhibit)
Kids (Section Heading)
Kids (exhibit)
Architecture (Section Heading)
Architecture Manipulation (exhibit)
URL Links (exhibit - heading turned off)

Thanks for the input!

Yes...and no.

No, out of the box no. You could write a custom menu output to do whatever you wanted though.

Yes, means sort of. What you can do is add html to your Exhibits->Settings->PreNav area that will place everything before the Index/nav output. However, you will need to fudge around with parts of your menu so that it won't auto-display (hide the pages).

So, using your example above you would place the code for this in the PreNav:

Introduction (Section Heading)
Design Like You Give a Damn (exhibit)
I Am (exhibit)
PHOTOGRAPHY (**THIS IS THE PROPOSED TOP LEVEL HEADING THAT I'D LIKE TO ADD)

And then simply allow your Index/nav to build itself natually.

If you don't know html or aren't comfortable then this is a problem. It would also pose a problem when you added pages to the Introduction section and you would need to manually update the PreNav each time.

Hope that makes sense...

Yes... It does make sense... I believe. If I'm understanding correctly I will essentially turn off these headings, and leave everything else visisble. Then in the pre-nav section, I add html links to the sections that I turned off. I'm going to try this right now.

Thanks again for all your help!

Yes, correct. You will also need to add your name at the top..address...etc. One thing to watch though, the Pre and Post Nav regions auto insert p and br tags...you won't see them except when you review the page...so you may need to play with it a bit until it's how you want it.

OK great. Thanks for the insight. I'll post back with the results later!

Thanks again. I have to tell you, I'm very impressed with this site and your support. I'm doing this for a client, but I think I'll be configuring a site for myself, as well. I'm so glad this client came along - he had already found this site and asked me if I could build his site for him using it. I'm not a web designer, but I have some basic knowledge and enough to get myself into trouble, so I reviewed it and couldn't believe how easy it is to use. I can't wait to see what else I can do with it!

Best,
Chris Ford

Worked like a charm! I just inserted the html in the pre-nav, then hid the section title and the pages. Very simple. =-)

Well here's an update...

It worked great, but my client changed his mind! LOL No longer wants the sub-categories. So, now I'll change it back but at least I learned something new. =-)
