Why is my domain a search page

aefeldman / 2014-11-03 18:16:14

Alright. I'm a bit at the end of my rope.

When I try to access my domain it leads me to one of those internet ad sites. I do not know why. PHP is on as far as I know, it's version 5+, I have paid my domain host bill, there aren't any DNS records or URL forwards, I'm using filezilla and all the indexhibit files got downloaded fine. This is all I know. The domain is aefeldman.us.

So why is it sending me to a site filled with ads in Hebrew? (Well I know why they're in Hebrew -- I'm in Israel -- but you get it.)

Thank you!
Ari

Did you pay your domain registration invoice?

aefeldman / 2014-11-03 18:25:49

Yeah, it won't expire until August 2015 and it's on auto-renew.

When I access your domain I see:

"Database is not installed."

Try clearing your browser cache - Shift + browser refresh...

Cleared cookies and cache, no change.

What does "database not installed" mean?

Vaska A / 2014-11-03 18:59:45

It means Indexhibit is waiting for you to install...

If you can't see what I'm seeing you have some kind of a caching issue. It's not an Indexhibit issue though - we have no control over that.

aefeldman / 2014-11-03 19:12:57

I'm not sure it's a cache issue since it doesn't work in 'incognito mode' either.

Is there something I need to change in my DNS settings? I closed Filezilla and reconnected to my server, that didn't do anything either.

aefeldman / 2014-11-03 19:16:20

Hold up, my indexhibit files are in Filezilla under 'public_html'. Is that an okay place for it to be?

Vaska A / 2014-11-04 13:55:54

Probably. It's different for each webhost though...but since that folder exists it's probably right.

So I checked with both name.com (domain people) and my webhost and both told me that everything is set up right -- nameservers, my domain goes to the right servers, etc. What am I doing wrong? Why do I get a 404 error when I try to go to the download link? Is it still a caching issue? Is Chrome a bad browser to be using? When I try the link in Safari it also gives me a "Not Found" page with an additional 404 error.

aefeldman.us/ndxzstudio/…

It's there - I see it and always have.

If you can not see the installation page then you have a caching issue. You'll need to search Google for help on that because it's not an Indexhibit issue and I've already told you what I know about this subject.

aefeldman / 2014-11-05 16:39:06

Oh my god. It was because the download link I was using had an extra "-" in it: "ndxz-studio" and not "ndxzstudio." Goddamn outdated blogspot instructions.

Vaska, thanks so much for your help. I really appreciate it. I can't believe this turned out to be so easy to fix. Occam's Razor, I guess.

Our installation instructions are better than anything else. Don't rely upon information outside of our site - the majority of it was never updated when we released v2 (eventhough we've asked people to do that).
