Subcategories were never supported - never released feature.
Nothing was changed with regards to the code that drives those things in any of the recent updates.
Can you send me an email with the link to your site...and any screenshots that might help describe the problem (if it's not obvious). I'll see what I can do...
Is there a setting in /ndxzsite/config/options.php? Maybe that setting was undone in an update? By default it's off...
