OVH HELP Topic

Hi everybody,

I have a problem with clean URLs and OVH, and since I realised I wasn't the only one who has got troubles configuring indexhibit on OVH, I thought I'd start a topic to find out what to do, but also for future OVH users who encounter the same problems.

The installation ran nicely, I was able to perform every step and do all the changes needed (CHMOD 777 etc...), as stated in the installation guide.

I also saw the OVH problem in advance concerning the defaults.php and changed it straightaway to:
$base = 'http://' . $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] . '/';
I don't know what difference it makes, but since it was advised to change this, I did it.

I started to get into troubles when I decided to activate the clean URLs fonction. It simply doesn't work. It breaks indexhibit or makes it look "ygly". I probably has to do with the style.css somewhere, even though I haven't customised it yet.

I read OVH's guide about mode_rewrite, I also read maybe I had to install mode_rewrite by accessin Apache, since the function might be available but not activated? The problem is I don't own a whole server and I have no idea how to access Apache and activate mod_rewrite. Anyway, I don't even know if this is what I have to do. (I don't know how to acces the httpd.conf file etc...).

The only help OVH gave me was to send me the URL (that I knew of already, not helpful at all...):

http://help.ovh.co.uk/HtaccessModRewrite

Other help topics include:
http://help.ovh.com/HtaccessOther

http://guides.ovh.com/HtaccessModRewrite (the french page is a lot more complete, available in french, spanish, german and polish, but not in english...).

This topic is interesting but I am not sure what it is about:
http://forums.pligg.com/installation-upgrade-help/1786-mod_rewrite-ovh-com.html

Do I need to write a customised .htaccess file from scratch? What to include? Problem with the "/", where to change this? In the indexhibit .htaccess file? Acces the Apache database with command (like in the apple Terminal)? How?

This website is a proof that clean URLs can work on OVH with indexhibit:

Sorry for that long message, I hope I can fix this simply, with your help, and I hope it can be useful for any OVH user in the future!

Cheers ^__^
