can't upload images

nadinesp / 2014-04-23 11:42:33

I can't upload images (since update). Message: Error abort.
I've tried Firefox, Safari, Chrome, etc. no success.
I've changed the code: indexhibit.org/forum/thread/20665/

If you are getting an error abort it wouldn't be that problem.

How large are your images?

nadinesp / 2014-04-23 20:08:37

I use the images from my old Indexhibit Site (for example: 20KB-270KB, RGB, jpg Format). We changed the Webhost/Server.

Vaska A / 2014-04-24 08:37:58

Anything over 200kb would be too big. Are you sure all your permissions are set? Did you create the gimgs and dimgs folders (in files)?

nadinesp / 2014-05-07 22:08:31

Yes. Permissions are set right. Folders exist.

How do I turn on debug logging in Indexhibit?

Vaska A / 2014-05-07 22:27:12

And they have correct permissions?

Try with a really small jpg and see what happens.

nadinesp / 2014-05-09 15:15:58

It happens the same, it doesn't work. Could you please answer my question: How can I turn on logging in indexhibit? Why guessing, when there can be clear error messages. Thank you.

Vaska A / 2014-05-09 17:01:57

There is no logging. Do you mean the server reporting the errors?

You really don't need that to resolve this...

Do you know how to use Firebug? What does the console say when you are trying to upload? I'm pretty sure you are having a permissions issue somewhere in the chain...

nadinesp / 2014-05-09 19:22:14

Yes, I'm talking of the server log. I am the administrator of the server and I am used to resolve problems this way.

Vaska A / 2014-05-09 19:35:24

In the root index.php file you can enable output of error messages.

Vaska A / 2014-05-09 19:35:59

But, what happens when you push the upload button?

nadinesp / 2014-05-09 23:16:02

It writes "4.10 KB     Error abort".

I can't get Indexhibit to do logging. I uncomment error_reporting(0) in the root's index.php and in ndxzstudio/index.php aswell. No verbose logging is done. Please give me more precise instructions. Thank you.

floastrais / 2014-05-10 21:06:29

hello. i'm using safari and having the same problem. in firefox the upload button doesn't work-it takes me again to the folders to choose files to upload.
-"Error SyntaxError: JSON Parse error: Unrecognized token '

floastrais / 2014-05-10 21:08:08

or
- "Error abort" or
- "Error File is too small"..

help me, please

Vaska A / 2014-05-11 00:20:46

@nadine: can you send me the login to your Indexhibit studio and I'll have a look.

support at indexhibit dot org

nadinesp / 2014-05-11 23:55:42

Can we please first try with logging enabled?

Vaska A / 2014-05-12 00:10:45

If they aren't appearing after having commented out that line then the host has them disabled.

But, logging isn't going to resolve this - we're utilizing a bunch of javascript for uploading and it's really not that simple.

I'm willing to bet that your statistics don't work as well. Try permissions on /ndxzsite/plugin/ajax.php as 644 755 and 777 and see if any of them allow statistics to work. Then, uploading will also likely work.

But, it could be other things...

- permissions on upload folders
- damaged file at upload or editing
- tmp folder doesn't have permissions
- server is out of space

nadinesp / 2014-05-21 08:32:30

Hi Vaska

The statistics do not work. The permissions on ndxzsite/plugin/ajax.php are:
-rw-r--r-- www-data staff which is 644.

I tried 755 777 without success for uploading.

Maybe you should document somewhere the minimum permissions needed for each folder(-tree) or file for indexhibit to work. It is not ok for a production env to set everything to 777.

To your other suggestions:
* Permissions on upload folder (if that is files/dimgs and files/gimgs) are set to 777.
* the images are different test images that display well
* which folder is the tmp folder you are talking? System tmp? The latter has 777.
* the server has enough space

Nadine I've offered to take a look already...something is clearly unusual about this problem.

javaspo / 2014-05-21 14:14:58

Hey Vaska,

I think I'm suffering from the same issue but really I just started using all this so I'm still in the fooling around stage but same thing: uploading doesn't work (also no stats). Did set the permissions on 777

Is this solved already? Could you take a look?
Which info do you need? the ndxzstudio login?

Greetings,

Jasper

Hi there,

It's Firefox (or maybe certain Add-ons).
Tried a (freshly downloaded) Chrome, now it works.

Anyway, solved!

Jasper

Please start a new thread javaspo - this one is very particular. There are also a bunch of threads already on this issue - it's not uncommon to have permissions issues or server issues to sort through when you first try to upload. Thanks.

I appreciate your help but giving away logins is against our policy.

What about the permission documentation I asked?

This thread has been closed, thank you.
